City’s Budget

gets and spends its money? You can get the
answer to this question and learn all about
the City’s new 昀椀scal year operating budget
by attending the next presentation in the City
Government Explained series.
The presentation, “Understanding the City
Budget”, takes place 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday,
Aug. 13 at Diamond Bar City Hall,
21810 Copley Drive. Advance registration is
strongly encouraged as space is limited.
City Government Explained is an educational presentation series that aims to
increase residents’ understanding of how Diamond Bar City government works;
it is open to residents age 16 and older. Every presentation includes Q-and-A

City To Test Emergency Noti昀椀cation System
Testing of the City’s emergency noti昀椀cation system, Civic
Ready/Alert Sense, is scheduled to take place this month.
At approximately 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 29, a test alert will be sent to everyone
who is subscribed to receive emergency alerts from the City. Depending on the
subscriber’s preference, the alert may be received as an email, text or recorded
message. Texts will come from 38276, and emails will come from alerts@
civicready.com.
During a real emergency, the alerts will provide subscribers with important
instructions and updates ranging from road closures to evacuation orders.
Examples of when the City will send out emergency noti昀椀cations are wild昀椀res,
earthquakes, severe weather, and incidents that require immediate public safety
action.

Armed Forces
Banner Program
Accepting
Applications
The second of two annual deadlines for Diamond Bar
residents to honor an immediate family member serving
on active duty in the United States military through the
City’s Armed Forces Banner Program is coming up.
Monday, Sept. 1 is the cutoff date to submit a request
to have a banner personalized with a loved one’s name
and military branch. Banner installations will occur in
November. Applications received after this date will be
part of the next round of requests, with banners going up
in May 2026.
Complete participation requirements and an online
application form are available online at
www.diamondbarca.gov/armedforces or by
calling the City’s Parks and Recreation Department at
909-839-7073.
The same online form can be used to inform the City
when an honoree is no longer on active service. Retired
banners are taken down at the same time new banners
are hung, and honorees or their family member(s) can
choose to pick it up or have it presented to them during
the City’s Veterans Recognition ceremony in November.
Back-To-School Safety Reminders
With school back in session this month, pedestrians and drivers alike are reminded that preventing
accidents is a shared responsibility. Here are a few tips to help ensure a safe travel for students on
their way to and from school:
Behind the Wheel
Lower your speed and remain alert for pedestrians – 25 mph is the maximum speed when
children are present.
Watch for and yield to pedestrians in crosswalks and at all intersections –
they have the right-of-way at these locations.
If a vehicle stops in front of you, slow down and practice patience – it may have stopped
for pedestrians.
Never pass a school bus while it is stopped with 昀氀ashing red lights and stop sign out – children
are either boarding or getting off. Violations carry a 昀椀ne and add points to your driving record.
On Foot
Cross the street only at signalized or marked crosswalks, and check for oncoming traf昀椀c in all
directions before stepping off the curb.
Make eye contact with drivers to make sure they can see you before crossing in front of them.
Eliminate opportunities for distraction such as the use of cell phone, hand-held games, or
music devices.
Watch for cars entering or exiting driveways or parking lots.
